Miss Morgan is the teacher in Rata class.
She really likes emails from students, tidy classrooms, polite children and Gilberthorpe School. She also enjoys spending time at crossfit, dancing around the house, the smell of freshly baked cookies and exploring new places.
She recently got a puppy called Cooper and she thinks he is just perfect! But does not like when he chews on her fingers...
Other things she does not like are killer MOTHS, the sound of people biting their finger nails, boiled veges, and slow internet!!!
Recently Miss Morgan has been spending her time watching endless hours of Dance Moms! She knows that it is not doing much for her education but is mesmerised by the skill of the young dancers on the show!
Her weekends are spent looking after Cooper and Andy and seeing all of her amazing friends.
When she grows up she would love to be fit & active... as well as a traveller of the world!
We are a year 4/5 class at Gilberthorpe School. This is a place where we can share our learning with you. We also have our own blogs which are linked off the right hand side of the page. Please note that some of this work will be our first draft, so there may be some errors. We would love to see your comments, feedback, thoughts and ideas!

Merry Christmas!
This week we have been working on creating an online Christmas Card. We are learning to make animations and also to write Christmas poetry in the form of a recipe. Hope you enjoy!
A Recipe for the Best Christmas Yet!
Ingredients:
A Houseful of family
1 Gallon of love
A Table full of lunch
4 Teaspoons of smiles
A Dash of laughter
4 Sprinkles of joy
Gather all ingredients in one room. Pour love into a big bowl. Sprinkle smiles overtop and mix well. Place lunch and laughter in a separate bowl and knead together. Use family and joy to bind both bowls together. Keep warm. Your Christmas is now ready! Enjoy!

Writing
In the last two weeks we have been working on our writing based on a video. The video we watched is called Marshmallow and it is from the Literacy Shed's fun page! Here are some pictures from the clip. Can you guess what it is about?

We learnt about adjectives and verbs. For example "The slimy green sea monster stalked its prey from a distance."
We also learnt about onomatopoeia - words that make the sound they are. "Splash! He jumped out of the lake and crept up behind his next victim."
We are looking at different ways to post our writing so that more people want to read it. We thought about only showing a hook, or the first paragraph in a slide. Do you have any other suggestions?
If you want to see any of the writing. Please go to the blogs down the right hand side :) Our students would love to see some comments here!

This term we have been learning about Mãori symbols and tone or shading as an art form. We learnt a whakatauki for the series of lessons and we have been learning a new kīwaha each week. Which one is your favourite and why?
The slide we are following is here:

Last week even Miss Morgan had an attempt at drawing a tiki... Do you think you could? We found it quite tricky!
This week we are learning to explore colour! In particular we are learning about complementary colours. What do you know about these? Do you have any examples of your own?

STEPS Program
This year the Senior Hub have been trailing the STEPS Web program to try and improve our spelling. There are different levels and you can achieve bronze, silver or gold medals in each activity. Once you have achieved gold in a level, it gets locked and you can not go back and repeat it. The activity page looks like this:
Lots of the student in the class find Word Grid really tricky! That is because you have to remember a number of words that it says in the correct order. Miss Morgan has told us that because we find it tricky, we need to make sure we are getting gold on it before we move on!
If you wanted to try out this program there is a 10 day trail here: https://stepsweb.com/
